Check . . . for him, please! Actress Kirsten Dunst opened up to Net-A-Porter's The Edit in its latest issue about what she looks for in a man, and he better be picking up the check.
The Fargo star, 33, has been dating actor Garrett Hedlund since 2011, and she finds his manliness incredibly attractive. I appreciate old-fashioned manners, Dunst told the mag. I want a guy to pay for dinner and open the door for me. I love the masculine."
Dunst, whose exes include Jake Gyllenhaal and Johnny Borrell, said she knows by now what she prefers in a significant other, and much of it is based on past experience. "Ive dated men who had more of a feminine side," she shared. "And it didnt work."
In fact, before dating Hedlund, 31, Dunst wouldn't let herself date any other actors. "I was at the movies with a friend recently and there was a Pan poster up," she recalled. (In the upcoming flick, Hedlund portrays young Captain Hook.) "Its just funny to me that thats even him; I dont associate him with acting at all. My friend was like, Now you know how Ive always felt!
Dunst said she hopes to begin a family of her own soon. "I want to continue acting, but I also want to have kids," she told The Edit. "I think Ill be ready to have them in two years or something."
For now, she's focused on the next big stretch of her career directing and she already has some issues about how female directors are perceived. I think its easier for mediocre male directors to be in this industry," she mused to the mag. "As a female you can be a director, but you have to be amazing thats the disparaging part to it. You have to be really great to get in there."
Dunst, however, acknowledges her work ethic. "I notice when people dont put in the work, the former child star shared. Actors can be really lazy . . . I go really . . . [Laughs] I dont want to say esoteric, because that seems like its far away from you. But when Im making a character I feel like a witch making a brew. So on set the first day Im confident; I have all the tools, all my notes, everything I need. You can have so much more freedom and more fun with what you do because its so engrained that you cant fail."
