NFL player Stedman Bailey, the wide receiver for the St. Louis Rams, was shot in the head twice late Tuesday, Nov. 24, and is currently in stable condition in a Miami hospital.
Bailey's team released an official statement confirming that he had been hospitalized. "We are aware Stedman Bailey was involved in an incident this evening," the Rams wrote on their website. "We have spoken with Stedman and he is in the hospital in critical, but stable, condition. We are gathering facts about the situation and will provide updates as we learn more."

According to NFL.com, Bailey, 25, was in his car with three members of his family in Miami Gardens, Fla., when another car reportedly pulled up beside the vehicle and opened fire. The site reported that the football player and the driver of the car, Bailey's cousin, were struck by bullets. Bailey reportedly sustained two bullet wounds in the head and will undergo surgery late Wednesday. His cousin, meanwhile, is battling life-threatening injuries.
The report from NFL.com also said that the shooter's identity was unknown, and Bailey is cooperating with authorities.
Bailey was raised in Miramar, Fla., close to the location of the shooting. He was a third-round draft pick by the Rams in 2013. As Bailey remains in stable condition, several of his teammates and fellow NFL players reached out with thoughts and prayers.
